Vancouver Pride

By , August 31, 2010

The North American West Coast from Los angeles all the way up to Vancouver the cities have a strong sense of Pride amongst the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community. It seems the further north you go the nicer the locals and visitors alike seem to be in these circles so it’s no shock that Vancouver rivals San Francisco for hottest city to visit for Pride Week.

Vancouver isn’t just limiting Pride to one week, or even one month. The events for the community stretch from early June until late August. Definitely a plus when booking one of the Vancouver hotels around the West End and Commercial Drive areas.

Commercial Drive is locally known as “The Drive” by members of the LGBT community of Vancouver and is a popular neighborhood for Vancouver’s thriving lesbian community. Filled with reasonably priced eateries, shops and other services it’s not hard to see why people from all over the city come by car or transit to hang out here.

While The Drive is a bustling area for shopping and socializing the West End is considered more of a residential neighborhood located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. The enter of the district scene is the length of Davie Street known as Davie Village . This area is equally as attractive for visitors into mingling with the locals with a variety of cafes, bistros, pubs, clubs and shops.

A Fountain That Overflows

By , August 24, 2010

The image of a fountain is one that has profound meaning in classical and contemporary cultures. The mythical status of the fountain is probably easy to understand, since it signifies the water of life. The appeal of having garden fountains in one’s own living space comes from this idea, where containing these waters also signifies a life well-lived, with all the abundance and mystery that water can imply.

In dream language, a fountain that’s overflowing is a symbol of nothing less than perfect and attainable happiness. To dream it suggests that the dreamer is at a particularly fertile period in one’s own journey, or it could also suggest deep longing for such things, and hint at the promise that they are immanent and within reach.

There are also plenty of images of fountains in the classical tarot decks. It’s not by coincidence that these cards are used as tools to mark the patterns in the unconscious. The images come from dreams, and for those who’ve practiced the art of card reading, the images also begin to influence dreams. While there are literal fountains here, there are also metaphorical ones. In each of the cups cards , there is the same suggestion of a fountain. Cups are containers, and when life is perfection, the cups do indeed overflow.

A ‘Must-Eat-At’ Restaurant in Denver, Colorado

By , August 9, 2010

There is a very reasonably priced restaurant east of downtown Denver and west of Colorado Avenue that stands out amongst all the other restaurants around. The Vine St. Pub has an overwhelming selection of food, atmosphere and style. Vine St. Pub is not far from the best hotels Colorado Avenue is known for by experienced travelers.

The Vine’s atmosphere is eclectic and boasts about how friendly and yet somewhat elitist, but only because of their limited seating. During the Vine’s busiest times, you’ll most likely have to wait a while for a table to open up, but the staff does their utmost to accommodate by graciously offering an occasional free beer or fries to their waiting patrons if the wait seems to be a long one. They do have seating at their outdoor patio, which during the summertime is great and frees up some seating issues.

Once seated, you’ll be guaranteed that anything you order will be delightful. There’s even a section for vegetarians and for those with special diet needs. Vine’s has their own brewery, so make sure to order their XXX Pale Ale that is super hoppy and biting or the Blackberry Wheat, which is very mild and pleasant.

All the locals are aware of this, but if you’re a visitor to Denver, bring cash if you’re planning to eat at the Vine St. Pub, they don’t accept credit cards. There is an ATM around the corner, or if you have your check book with you, they still accept checks.
